Having more antioxidant value than red wine or even green tea, pomegranates have been in the news a lot recently. One of the recent touted health benefits of pomegranate juice is lowering cholesterol and blood pressure. Certainly, this yummy juice does have a positive effect on your arteries not to mention other aspects of your health.
When I told my father about these benefits he decided to start a regimen to drink some of the juice and see if it lowered his blood pressure and cholesterol. He started about a month before his next doctors visit and drank 8 oz of juice each morning. On his next doctor visit both his blood pressure and cholesterol were down! The nurse was quite surprised but said that other patients had told her about the juice and their levels had been lower as well.

Antioxidants are important since they fight the free radicals which can cause oxidation - a process that affects the cholesterol in your blood. This oxidation is thought to cause hardening of the arteries or atherosclerosis. However, according to a study at the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa the oxidation can be cut in half by drinking pomefranate juice.. This fantastic juice has also been found to improve blood flow, reduce plaque in the arteries, increase levels of nitric oxide, lower systolic blood pressure and even help with ED. Other benefits may include helping to prevent stroke, Alzheimer?s, arthritis, premature aging and even cancer.
Just like anything else, you must be selective about the juice you use. Most people purchase juices as eating the seeds from the fruit or attempting to juice the fruit is quite challenging and time consuming.
One thing though, if you do decide to avail yourself of the health benefits of pomegranate juice you might want to check with your physician first, particularly if you are taking any medications.
